Sam and Dejonnee got married at Forest House Lodge in Foresthill, California in late December.
For me it was a last minute wedding. About two weeks earlier I received a frantic email and phone message from Sam’s sister who was in a panic because the photographer that Sam and Dee had lined up for their wedding canceled on them at the last minute.
Fortunately, I was able to squeeze them into my schedule and put off shopping for Christmas presents until the last minute.
It was a small, family oriented wedding that was both fun and emotional.

Sam had just returned from Firefighting school in Texas where he is a member of the armed services. Dee came to California from Japan where she is stationed with the Navy.
The two had not seen each other for months and would again be separated shortly after the wedding.
Here are a few more photos from the wedding…

I really love the natural light on this image. I am always looking for special light and trying to take advantage of it.

I am careful to keep my eye on children at weddings. Moments like this one with this young flower girl checking out the bride are fleeting. My years of photojournalism experince have taught me to always be ready for a photo because you never know what might happen.

Immediately after the ceremony Sam and Dee started playing with the swords that they had exchanged. Sam dodges a close one here. You always have to be ready for moments like this, you just can't recreate them.

Sam's best man asked the DJ to play a special song for him. He dedicated it to his mother. The tow of them share a very emotional moment remember their father and husband who is no longert with them.
